Jay Gibbons and Jose Guillen suspended 15 games for HGH use

Jay Gibbons and Jose Guillen suspended 15 games for HGH useHere we go, let the suspensions begin!  A number of major leaguers have been accused of taking HGH, but baseball didn’t ban the substance until January 2005.  Players like Troy Glaus, Gary Matthews Jr., Rick Ankiel, and Scott Schoeneweis were let off the hook, because even if they did get shipments of the stuff, it was before that time.  I’m fine with that — it wasn’t illegal at the time, and it’s proven to help you recover from injuries.  But Gibbons and Guillen took it after they knew it was illegal, so it’s nice to see these boneheads get busted!  But is the penalty severe enough?  Read here for a good analysis!
