Question: Given that you were skipped a start with what was described as a tight lat muscle, do people have the right to question why you were golfing?

Question: Do you understand the perception that leaves when the team is playing as poorly as it is?

 

Answer: We get 18 off days a year. I think we deserve a little time to ourselves.

No doubt, Josh Beckett is a Sports Bonehead!

Remember he got named last season for drinking beer in the clubhouse at the end of the season when the Red Sox choked their way out of the playoff consideration? Yep, same Josh Beckett.

   A plan to renovate Wrigley Field and add more signage has drawn pointed opposition from influentialAld. Tom Tunney, who says the interests of surrounding rooftop bleacher owners must be protected.

In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Tunney wasn’t particularly subtle in slamming Chicago Cubs ownership in favor of rooftop-bleacher owners, who have hosted fundraisers for him in the past. Keeping those views of the ballpark open, he argued, is more important than any effort to put more money into renovations of Wrigley Field. The Cubs have proposed a $300 million renovation of the ballpark, which would include structural improvements, a new suite/club level replacing the current mezzanine/suite area, and more. Half of the cost would come from bonds issued against future amusement-tax revenues collected by the city and Cook County (which would probably need to be issued by a third party), the rest from the team. The Cubs would also receive permission to put up a larger scoreboard (the current manual scoreboard would remain) and close Waveland and Sheffield on game day to accommodate fans.

“The rooftops and the owners of Wrigley have a unique partnership,” Tunney said. “They want to be protected long-term. They have a lot invested. The city has asked them to spend millions to keep their buildings safe. We’ve got to find ways they can both stay in business.”

Now, we love the charm of the rooftop bleachers and think they add to the overall atmosphere at Wrigley Field. But openly declaring their interests come before those of the Cubs is more than a little twisted; it’s keeping the dog on life support so the fleas can thrive.

North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams on Tuesday defended his players who were enrolled in classes at the center of an internal university investigation of academic fraud and improprieties.

“The players were eligible to be enrolled in those classes, as were non-student-athletes, and they did the work that was assigned to them,” Williams said through an athletic department spokesman.

UNC on Friday released the results of an investigation that found widespread academic fraud in 54 classes offered by UNC’s Department of African and Afro-American Studies. The investigation found evidence of unauthorized grade changes, no-show professors and an absence of instruction in dozens of classes.

Coach Williams just proved to the world he is not caring about the academic value of his players, only that they are eligible.

”I was trying to hit him,” the Philadelphia lefty said. ”I’m not going to deny it.”

Isn’t that a lot like telling the police officer to check under the seat because I have some illegal substance there? Come on, man! You have to know you are going to get in trouble and fined for this. It was premeditated. He went on to comment,

”That’s something I grew up watching, that’s kind of what happened. So I’m just trying to continue the old baseball because I think some people are kind of getting away from it. I remember when I was a rookie the strike zone was really, really small and you didn’t say anything because that’s the way baseball is,” Hamels said.

”But I think unfortunately the league’s protecting certain players and making it not that old-school, prestigious way of baseball,” he said.

Cole Hamels is a Bonehead!

It is rumored that Albert Haynesworth in in trouble again.  This time for sexually abusing a waitress in W Hotel in Washington.  It is still up in the air whether or not these claims are true or false though.  Given Albert Haynesworth’s bonehead past – we are leaning towards true.

So here is what went down in a nutshell…

• Haynesworth ate dinner at this place.
• Waitress had hands full when it was time to pay.
• Albert asked if it was ok to stick his cartd in her blouse since she had her hands full.
• Waitress nodded head yes.
• Waitress claims that Haynesworth slid the card further down her blouse and started playing with her boobies.

End of story.  A little bit of “who cares’ right?  But it’s Albert Haynesworth being a bonehead none the less.

If you were to look up Sports Bonehead in the dictionary there would be a picture of Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera. This guy is a ridiculously talented baseball player but he has problems.

Miguel was arrested earlier this week in the mid hours of the night.  Police found his car smoking from the engine on the side of the road.  They got to him and found Miggy in quite a mess.  He was obviously drunk and used the ever so famous line…

“Do you know who I am?”

I’m sure that went over real well with the police bonehead Miguel.  Cabrera apparantly resisted the arrest and the officers had to knee him 3-4 different times in the thigh.  The police described Cabrera as,

“belligerent, cocky, combative and argumentative.”

Those are four words I never want to be but most boneheads seem to fit this bill. Miguel Cabrera is going to have a rough year I think.

Lane Kiffin just can’t shut his big mouth.  Even after losing to Florida he continues to talk.  Florida coach, Urban Meyer stated that many of his team were sick with the flu during last weekends 23-13 win over Tennessee.  How did Kiffin respond?

“I don’t know. I guess we’ll wait and after we’re not excited about a performance, we’ll tell you everybody was sick.”

Hey bonehead Kiffin.  Win a few games before you really get this cocky.
