No doubt, Josh Beckett is a Sports Bonehead!

Remember he got named last season for drinking beer in the clubhouse at the end of the season when the Red Sox choked their way out of the playoff consideration? Yep, same Josh Beckett.

   A plan to renovate Wrigley Field and add more signage has drawn pointed opposition from influentialAld. Tom Tunney, who says the interests of surrounding rooftop bleacher owners must be protected.

In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Tunney wasn’t particularly subtle in slamming Chicago Cubs ownership in favor of rooftop-bleacher owners, who have hosted fundraisers for him in the past. Keeping those views of the ballpark open, he argued, is more important than any effort to put more money into renovations of Wrigley Field. The Cubs have proposed a $300 million renovation of the ballpark, which would include structural improvements, a new suite/club level replacing the current mezzanine/suite area, and more. Half of the cost would come from bonds issued against future amusement-tax revenues collected by the city and Cook County (which would probably need to be issued by a third party), the rest from the team. The Cubs would also receive permission to put up a larger scoreboard (the current manual scoreboard would remain) and close Waveland and Sheffield on game day to accommodate fans.

“The rooftops and the owners of Wrigley have a unique partnership,” Tunney said. “They want to be protected long-term. They have a lot invested. The city has asked them to spend millions to keep their buildings safe. We’ve got to find ways they can both stay in business.”

Now, we love the charm of the rooftop bleachers and think they add to the overall atmosphere at Wrigley Field. But openly declaring their interests come before those of the Cubs is more than a little twisted; it’s keeping the dog on life support so the fleas can thrive.

”I was trying to hit him,” the Philadelphia lefty said. ”I’m not going to deny it.”

Isn’t that a lot like telling the police officer to check under the seat because I have some illegal substance there? Come on, man! You have to know you are going to get in trouble and fined for this. It was premeditated. He went on to comment,

”That’s something I grew up watching, that’s kind of what happened. So I’m just trying to continue the old baseball because I think some people are kind of getting away from it. I remember when I was a rookie the strike zone was really, really small and you didn’t say anything because that’s the way baseball is,” Hamels said.

”But I think unfortunately the league’s protecting certain players and making it not that old-school, prestigious way of baseball,” he said.

Cole Hamels is a Bonehead!

If you were to look up Sports Bonehead in the dictionary there would be a picture of Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera. This guy is a ridiculously talented baseball player but he has problems.

Miguel was arrested earlier this week in the mid hours of the night.  Police found his car smoking from the engine on the side of the road.  They got to him and found Miggy in quite a mess.  He was obviously drunk and used the ever so famous line…

“Do you know who I am?”

I’m sure that went over real well with the police bonehead Miguel.  Cabrera apparantly resisted the arrest and the officers had to knee him 3-4 different times in the thigh.  The police described Cabrera as,

“belligerent, cocky, combative and argumentative.”

Those are four words I never want to be but most boneheads seem to fit this bill. Miguel Cabrera is going to have a rough year I think.

Vladimir Guerrero becomes the latest bonehead to lie about his real age.  Vlad Daddy joins other dominicans such as Bartolo Colon and Miguel Tejada as bonehead liars.  Vlad is really 34 – not 33.  You think this will effect his contract situation coming up?  I surely do.  The team seems to say they “knew” this all along but I’m guessing this is just a cover up to make everything look better.  Well, Vlad at least you aren’t the only bonehead that’s older than you really are.

So it’s official.  Alex Rodriguez was and is a ROIDER.  We aren’t giving him a bonehead for taking the steroids.  I mean everyone does that.  We are giving him the bonehead callout because he denied it to no end.  Told reporters he never did it.  Even lied about steroids in his past interviews.  But now he came out and said indeed, he did do steroids.  WOW.  Sports Bonehead at it’s greatest.  There are stories galore on this but here are a few:

A federal criminal complaint was filed in U.S. District Court today, charging Tejada with “Misrepresentations to Congress” which is apparently frowned upon. The six-page indictmentinformation, which you can read below, basically says that the findings in the Mitchell Report contradict what Tejada told Congressional staffers during an interview conducted when they were investigating the steroids in baseball matter. Legally, that’s the same thing as lying to Abraham Lincoln’s ghost, so you can imagine how much trouble he’s in. Tejada is due in court, in Washington, tomorrow morning.

Uh Oh Miguel. You are now a Sports Bonehead. I just don’t understand all these people denying that they used roids. Are you serious? How obvious can things be? Welcome to the club Miguel Tejada. No wonder you were so good then fell of the planet in terms of production.

Today’s bonehead doesn’t go to a player or a coach. It goes to Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin. The Brewers fired their long time coach, Ned Yost, recently. So what you say? Well, the Brewers are tied for the wild card and have essentially the 5th best record in the league. AND, there is just 12 games to go. Boneheaded move Brewers and it could bite ya. You just don’t do that type of thing. Yost has built a nice team here and has a real chance at going deep into the playoff. Why make a desperation move. You really think that is the problem? Quit being boneheads and look for something/someone different to blame!

Next thing you know, Julio Castillo fires a fastball from about 30 feet into the Dayton dugout. It is unclear who he is trying to hit – but that is besides the point. The ball did not hit anyone directly but bounced into the stands and hit a fan. The fan had to be taken to the hospital but little details are known at this point. This started a 10 minute bench clearing brawl between the two teams.

These are the Cubs and Reds class A teams. So it leads to the question… How can someone have that much anger built up to throw a ball that fast at someone. If that lands and hits someone squarely in the head, someone is dead. BONEHEAD BONEHEAD BONEHEAD. Actually, this may qualify for Bonehead of the year. Castillo was arrested and hopefully gets kicked out of baseball. Cya Bonehead.
