Michael Phelps drugs, bong, sponsors

First of all Michael Phelps, you are a world class athlete. Secondly, you are a world class bonehead. If you are going to be taking a “bong hit” or whatever you want to call it. Do it somewhere private. How dumb do you have to be to do this at some party where every person in the world is taking photo’s of you on their cell phone. You are a start – pictures will leak. BONEHEAD.

Here is Michael Phelps quote after the incident,

“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment,” Phelps said in the statement released by one of his agents on Sunday. “I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

Phelps had several major sponsors as well that have now started backing off sponsorship. What a huge mistake for the boneheaded swimmer. Speedo, Subway and others are all considering their next step. Kellog has already yanked their sponsorhips of Michael Phelps for his drug and bong related incident. Ooops.

Some fans can be boneheads too

We don’t usually qualify fans as Sports Boneheads, but in this case – it counts.

Upset that his 7-year-old son wouldn’t wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the team’s playoff victory Saturday, a man restrained the boy for an hour with tape and taped the jersey onto him.

Are you kidding me here? We all knew Packers fans were crazy, but not this crazy. The man did get arrested for this because the WIFE turned him in. Yep, the wife!!! She has since filed a restraining order against him. What goes through your head when you taping you child to a jersey? BONEHEAD!

German tennis player Tommy Haas poisoned?

Did a Hamlet play break out on the tennis court during the Davis Cup? Investigations are underway that German tennis player Tommy Haas was poisoned before his match against Mikhail Youzhny of Russia! Haas had to leave his match with what looked like a stomach virus, but a German teammate was told by a Russian manager that the illness was due to a poisoning! The ITF will look into this and provide their results, but man, what bonehead would bring this kind of drama to the tennis court?!

High school coach on trial for throwing balls at kids' groins!

I can’t decide whether this is hilarious, disgusting, sad, or all of the above, but it certainly earns a place on the bonehead pages — a Colorado high school coach from Monument Academy is standing trial for repeated offenses of hitting kids — in the groin. Twenty-nine-year-old Greg Burr has been accused of jacking 9 of his kids in the junk over the course of the 2005-06 school year! He’s used basketballs, tennis balls, clipboards, and other objects to deliver what he thinks is funny abuse to these kids. One poor kid had to have surgery due to repeated shots to the sack, and another kid was down for the count for 15+ minutes after being pelted with a tennis ball. Again, I don’t know whether to laugh or be disgusted, but this Greg Burr guy is certainly a sick individual.

Russian tennis player Davydenko fined for lack of effort

Well this is something you don’t see every day — someone being fined for not trying hard enough! Russian tennis player Nikolay Davydenko was fined $2000 for lack of effort during a match he lost Thursday against Marian Cilic. Davydenko was the top seed, and he dominated the first set, winning 6-1. He lost the next set, and then he got smoked 6-1 in the final set. Davydenko was making several double-faults in the last set, and the chair umpire started giving him warnings, as if accusing him of throwing the match! Davydenko claimed his legs were killing him, saying his “legs have collapsed” and “I could not move”, but he still drew the fine. He also said “I was so upset with the whole thing I started crying.” HA! A lot of the issue had to do with the fact that Davydenko was still being investigated for betting scandals. Still, I thought this was hilarious boneheaded activity.

General report — violation of school policy

We’ve come across several incidents in the past couple weeks where players were dismissed from the college team or suspended due to a violation of school policy. Until we know what that violation was, which was more than likely boneheaded, we’re holding back from reporting on those incidents. It has been pretty amazing, though, how often these things happen — college kids just don’t have their heads on straight sometimes!

Trainer suspended for jacking up horses

A bonehead story from the world of horse racing! Trainer Patrick Biancone has been suspended for a year for having snake venom in a fridge at his barn. This stuff is used to numb horse nerves to help them perform better. Biancone won’t be able to train horses anywhere in the U.S. because of this violation of horse medication rules. Biancone is fighting back, saying he didn’t know the stuff was in his fridge, so he’s trying to appeal. So not only are humans getting jacked up, but I guess it’s spilling over into the animal kingdom now too!

Tennis player Stefan Koubek disqualified for rant at official

Austrian tennis player Stefan Koubek was disqualified from the Open de Moselle on Thursday after blowing up at an official over a call. During Koubek’s match with Sebastien Grosjean, Koubek made a scene with the supervisor of the match. The linesman was unsure whether Grosjean’s serve was in or out and called for a replay. Koubek thought the supervisor should get involved and threw enough “verbal abuse” at him over this minor controversy that he got himself disqualified. In 2000, Koubek also got disqualified for throwing his racket at a ball boy! You don’t see too many boneheaded moments in tennis, but Koubek sure has them in him!

Marion Jones admits to steroid use before 2000 Olympics

After years of vehement denial in the face of steroids allegations, Marion Jones has finally come clean. Jones will enter a guilty plea in court on Friday that she illegally took “the clear” for 2 years, starting in 1999. Jones won 5 medals, 3 golds, at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, but now she may have to give those up. Jones has faced accusations of doping for years now, and a confession finally comes up. Jones was really well-liked by most people, especially during those games, so it’s too bad she turned out to be such a bonehead.

Tyson likely heading back to jail

Mike Tyson pled guilty on Monday to DUI and drug possession charges related to an incident on December 29. He admitted he had cocaine and was driving under the influence when he was pulled over in Scottsdale last year. Sadly, Tyson admitted that he used cocaine “whenever I can get my hands on it.” Goodness. Add it to the seemingly endless list of boneheaded Tyson offenses.
