The Chris Webber Timeout
The 1993 NCAA Basketball Championship game between North Carolina and Michigan came right down to the wire. Trailing 73-71 with 19 seconds left, Chris Webber rebounded a missed free throw, with everyone clearing back towards the Michigan basket. As Webber started his way towards Michigan’s end, he travelled…but none of the refs called it! Webber continued to dribble down towards Michigan’s bench, where he called a timeout — but the bonehead forgot that Michigan didn’t have any more timeouts. The blunder resulted in a technical foul and ended Michigan’s last chance at a championship.
